Mark Anderson has been at the Review-Journal since January 1999. He covered UNLV football for 17 seasons before moving to the men’s basketball beat in January 2016, and was president of the Football Writers Association of America in 2016. Anderson returned to the football beat in 2017 and still covers men’s basketball. Before coming to the R-J, he covered UNR football for five seasons at the Reno Gazette-Journal and was the high school sports reporter for the Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat from 1988-94. UNLV shortstop Bryson Stott, who also went to Desert Oasis High School, made the 26-man USA Baseball Collegiate National team for an international series. Team USA will play Japan in various U.S. cities from Tueday to Sunday and at Cuba on July 10-14.

Steve Jenkins, a wide receiver from Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California, tweeted Thursday he had committed to play football at UNLV.

The Washington Wizards selected Las Vegan Troy Brown Jr. with the 15th pick in the first round of the NBA draft on Thursday. Brown, a 6-foot-7-inch guard/forward, played one year at Oregon after starring at Centennial High School.
Former UNLV center Brandon McCoy is expected to go in the second round of Thursday’s NBA draft or not at all. Troy Brown Jr., who went to Centennial High School, is a probable first-round selection.
