The Las Vegas Bowl will be Saturday, Dec. 15 at 12:30 p.m. and will be televised on ABC. It’s the seventh consecutive year the game, which will be at Sam Boyd Stadium, will be on a Saturday and the sixth year in a row on ABC.

Mark Anderson has been at the Review-Journal since January 1999. He covered UNLV football for 17 seasons before moving to the men’s basketball beat in January 2016, and was president of the Football Writers Association of America in 2016. Anderson returned to the football beat in 2017 and still covers men’s basketball. Before coming to the R-J, he covered UNR football for five seasons at the Reno Gazette-Journal and was the high school sports reporter for the Tallahassee (Fla.) Democrat from 1988-94. He is a native of Tallahassee and a graduate of the University of Florida.
Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, a 6-foot 8-inch forward from Cameroon, committed to UNLV. He is a product of the NBA Global Academy.
Former UNLV center Brandon McCoy has been invited to the NBA draft combine on May 16-20 in Chicago. The draft is June 21.
Former UNLV quarterback Johnny Stanton has been invited to the Minnesota Vikings’ rookie minicamp, which is this weekend.
Three more players with local ties signed NFL contracts as undrafted free agents. Four players have signed overall, and two others were drafted.
Tyrell Crosby, an offensive tackle from Oregon and Green Valley High School, was drafted in the fifth round Saturday by the Detroit Lions. He was projected to go as high as the second round.
Guard Will Hernandez, who went to Chaparral High School and Texas-El Paso, was taken with the second pick of the second round Friday by the New York Giants.
The Commission on College Basketball issued a 52-page report Wednesday urging major change in the sport. Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice chaired the commission.
Chaparral High School graduate Will Hernandez could be a first-round pick in the NFL draft. He was a two-time second-team All-American at Texas-El Paso.
Liberty High School safety Austin Fiaseu committed to play football at UNLV, he posted on Twitter. He will be part of the Rebels’ 2019 recruiting class.
UNLV’s football team will play three Mountain West games next season on CBS Sports Network and another on an ESPN channel. TV and game time information for UNLV’s four nonconference games have not been announced.
The UNLV men’s soccer team had 17 first-generation college students on its roster last season, including nine of the 11 starters. The Rebels bring back 12 of those players next season.
UNLV football coach Tony Sanchez said his team’s defense is hungry to prove it is better than many people believe. The Rebels’ offense, though, should score more than 30 points per game.
Former UNLV cornerback Tim Hough, who went to Desert Pines High School, will join Oregon’s football team as a graduate transfer.
UNLV rallied to defeat Air Force 10-7 on Sunday at Wilson Stadium, giving the Rebels’ baseball team the series victory. They hope to carry that play forward over the final month or so of the season.
