Raiders lose starting running back to NFC team in free agency

Updated March 11, 2024 - 11:17 am

The player Antonio Pierce referred to as the heartbeat of the Raiders is moving on to the Green Bay Packers.

Josh Jacobs, the last remaining first-round pick from the Raiders infamous 2019 draft, agreed to terms on a four-year deal with the Packers for up to $48 million. Jacobs is guaranteed $12.5 on the deal.

Jacobs, 26, was the final remaining first-round pick from the Raiders’ 2019 draft. He had 5,545 rushing yards and 46 rushing touchdowns during his career with the team but was slowed last season. Jacobs finished with 805 rushing yards — less than half of the 1,653 he produced in 2022 — and missed the Raiders’ final four games with a quadriceps injury.

The team is expected to turn to running back Zamir White as Jacobs’ replacement. White, a 2022 fourth-round pick, finished with 451 rushing yards on 104 carries his second NFL season.
