Brent Musburger no longer Raiders radio announcer

Updated June 3, 2022 - 1:25 pm

Legendary sports broadcaster Brent Musburger is no longer the Raiders radio play-by-play announcer.

Musburger made the announcement Friday on Twitter.

In the tweet, Musburger wrote: “Many thanks to the @Raiders organization for fond memories. I’ll miss broadcast partner Lincoln Kennedy and the radio production crew. What’s next? I hear Mike Trout might step down as commissioner of his fantasy league. You never know!”

The 83-year-old Musburger has been with the Raiders since 2018, calling games covering their last two seasons in Oakland and their first two years in Las Vegas.

The Raiders have not made an official announcement. And it is not known yet who will replace Musburger.

Musburger has been a fixture in sports broadcasting for more than five decades, and he is widely considered a pioneer for the lead host role he played on The NFL Today pregame show on CBS-TV.

The success of the show, which first began airing live in 1974, and Musburger’s deft hosting skills, set the stage for numerous imitators over the years. To this day the live pregame show for national sports broadcasts is a staple of the industry.

His career at CBS also saw him rise to play-by-play prominence as the network’s lead sportscaster for the NBA Finals and college basketball.

In 1990, Musburger moved to ABC-TV and ESPN, where he called everything ranging from college football to the NBA. He left ESPN in 2017 to help create VSIN, a sports betting digital network, which is in its fifth year.

Musburger landed the radio play-by-play role with the Raiders one year later.
