Las Vegas Motor Speedway to admit fans for NASCAR weekend

The roar of engines will be joined by the roar of spectators at the March 5-7 NASCAR Weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
“We’re excited that we’ll have race fans in attendance for all three days,” LVMS president Chris Powell said in a statement Thursday after receiving word that a limited number of spectators will be allowed at the track for Truck, Xfinity and the marquee Pennzoil 400 Presented by Jiffy Lube NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday afternoon.
“Given what our state and community have been through in the face of this terrible pandemic, we can only hope that this announcement represents some semblance of a return to normalcy,” Powell said.
LVMS still is awaiting word on how many fans will be allowed per day. After submitting a health and safety plan to local and state agencies, track officials were hopeful of entertaining around 15,000 fans for each of the three races.
Spectators will be required to wear face coverings and observe social distancing. They also will undergo temperature checks.
“There are no higher priorities than the health and safety of every race fan who is fortunate enough to attend our events,” Powell said. “The same goes for every competitor, official, sponsor and staff member. Everyone has my personal assurance that we will follow every protocol in our zealous effort to keep everyone safe.”
This will be the first NASCAR Weekend since the pandemic in which fans will be in attendance. Last fall’s South Point 400 playoff race, won by Las Vegan Kurt Busch, was run in front of empty grandstands.
Limited NASCAR Weekend tickets are available through the speedway website at www.lvms.com. Fans are advised to reserve tickets early to assure the best chance of attending.
