The Golden Knights better use what time off they have following their Stanley Cup run wisely because they will be back on the ice at T-Mobile Arena on Sept. 16.
The team’s preseason schedule was announced Monday and the Knights will host the Arizona Coyotes that night in what will be the first of seven tuneups for the 2018-19 regular season. There will be four home and three away preseason games.
Highlighting the preseason schedule is a home-and-home with the Los Angeles Kings — Sept. 20 at Staples Center and Sept. 28 at T-Mobile; two games against the Colorado Avalanche — Sept. 18 in Denver and Sept. 24 at T-Mobile Arena; and two against the San Jose Sharks — Sept. 22 at San Jose and Sept. 30 in Las Vegas.
The team also announced it will hold its training camp at City National Arena beginning Sept. 13 with the first on-ice practice Sept. 14. The team’s rookie camp will be Sept. 6, also at City National Arena. Practices are expected to be open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.
“We are excited to have seven preseason games to get us ready for the regular season,” Knights general manager George McPhee said in a statement from the team Monday. “It will be a great opportunity for our younger players to gain crucial experience and for our veterans to get sharp for the season.”
This year’s preseason slate looks similar to last year.
Last year, the Knights played seven games with the first four on the road. This year, they will play three straight on the road following the home opener with the Coyotes, then finish with three games at home. As was the case a year ago, the preseason finale will be against the Sharks on Sunday afternoon.
The NHL will release the dates for all 31 teams’ home openers on Wednesday, with the full 2018-19 schedule to be announced on Thursday. Ticket information for the Knights’ preseason games will be released at a future date.
