Fans from all 50 states buying Super Bowl tickets, StubHub says

The Super Bowl in Las Vegas will draw fans from around the world, and they’re not shying away from the lofty prices for tickets to the big game.

The strong demand for Sunday’s game between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium makes it the best-selling Super Bowl on StubHub since 2020.

Ticket buyers on secondary marketplace StubHub are coming from all 50 states and 16 countries.

The cheapest-available single ticket Thursday on StubHub was $8,301, after fees, in Section 417. More than half of tickets sold to the game were purchased between Jan. 29 and the beginning of the week, according to StubHub. There has been a decrease of a little over 20 percent from the peak prices seen in the day following the AFC and NFC conference championship games.

‘Extraordinary demand’

“With the game less than a week away, we’re tracking extraordinary demand for the first Las Vegas Super Bowl,” StubHub spokesperson Adam Budelli said in a statement. “Sales for this rematch have already exceeded final sales of Super Bowl LIV in Miami, and every Super Bowl that’s followed.”

Fans of the 49ers appear to account for the most tickets purchased, based on state ticket buying data, with 35 percent of tickets purchased by Californians, as of this week. Those Niner faithful purchased more tickets than Chiefs fans by a margin of 2 1/2 times, according to StubHub.

Proprietary projection data from Vivid Seats also reveals that despite being 415 miles away from the Bay Area, 49ers fans are tracking to have home field advantage during the Super Bowl. Niner fans are estimated to make up about 60 percent of the crowd at Allegiant Stadium, according Vivid Seats.

On Thursday, the lowest get-in price on Vivid Seats for a single ticket was $7,899.10 after fees, for a seat in Section 417. The highest-priced ticket on Vivid Seats listed for $51,596.15 (including $13,403.65 in fees) for a club seat in Section C134.

Most expensive seats cost more than $51K

On Seat Geek, the cheapest single ticket to the Super Bowl Thursday was $8,026.87 after fees, for a seat in the 400 level, the highest seating level of Allegiant Stadium, in Section 417, Row 8. A club seat in Club 134 was priced at $31,734.22, after $8,149.22 in fees were added to the listed price.

Seat Geek allows those who qualify to use the buy now, pay later model via Affirm. For the cheapest advertised seat on Seat Geek, a customer could make payments in installments of $725 every month for year, with an annual interest rate of 14.99 percent.

The large ticket demand comes as no surprise to former NFL quarterback and current CBS color analyst Tony Romo, who will call the game Sunday. Having access to all that Las Vegas has to offer on top of the game happening in the city, Romo said he is excited that the Super Bowl is being held in Southern Nevada.

“When you come to Las Vegas, it’s just the greatest place to experience something you’ve never experienced,” Romo told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Tuesday. “You get to do and see things you’ve never seen before. It’s just amazing and I’m just so happy they have the Super Bowl here and that we (CBS) get to do the game.”

Ticket buying tips

Those seeking to buy tickets to Sunday’s Super Bowl on the secondary market should consider these tips when looking to make such an expensive purchase.

— Do not pay for a ticket in cash or buy from someone off the street, as that presents issues if a ticket turns out to be counterfeit. StubHub recommends using a reputable ticket service with an order guarantee and a customer service department.

— Going to the game solo could present cheaper ticket options, as opposed to buying in groups. Searching for single tickets may yield better prices than searching for group tickets.

— Once a ticket is secured, do not post bar codes on social media to keep a scammer from copying the ticket.
