Titus should hold off on Hillary support
August 21, 2013 - 11:00 pm
To the editor:
Dina Titus, our illustrious House representative, has come out supporting Hillary Clinton for the presidency in 2016. Is Rep. Titus aware of the fact that there are many unanswered questions connected with the Benghazi attack, in which four Americans were killed and approximately 20 Americans were sworn not to divulge any information about the terrorist attack? Is our distinguished representative aware of the fact that this terror attack happened on Mrs. Clinton’s watch as secretary of state, and that Mrs. Clinton stated that she assumes responsibility for the incident?
When questioned about this in congressional hearings, Mrs. Clinton lost her cool and said, “What difference does it make?” Isn’t Rep. Titus jumping the gun a little, inasmuch as the Benghazi incident is still under investigation? Or has the attack and Mrs. Clinton’s responsibility already been swept under the rug? The American people would like to know.

Clean Energy Summit
To the editor:
Sen. Harry Reid’s sixth annual Clean Energy Summit was held Aug. 13 at Mandalay Bay. For several years, Sen. Reid has supported plans to use 19th-century technology to bring water to Las Vegas via a 300-mile pipeline. One gallon of water weighs 8 pounds. How much nonrenewable dirty energy will be required annually to transport billions of gallons of water?
Sen. Reid was first elected to Congress in 1982. For decades, he could’ve advocated for Nevada obtaining a greater than 3 percent allocation of Lake Mead water. For decades, he could’ve pursued greater farm water conservation, so that Lake Mead would be at a higher elevation and the pipeline wouldn’t be needed.
Decades ago, it was known that Nevada could export solar energy to California or Mexico via the Hoover Dam electric grid to power a desalting plant, in exchange for a larger share of Lake Mead water. Other nations have built desalting plants powered entirely by wind or solar energy.
Green values have been the goal of the Clean Energy Summit. Opponents of the pipeline contend it will damage Nevada’s only national park, harm many endangered species and convert an area the size of Vermont into an arid wasteland. Sen. Reid’s support of this anti-green, anti-clean pipeline is at the summit of hypocrisy.

Performance enhancers
To the editor:
Roger Witcher would love to see more athletes use performance-enhancing drugs so he can witness spectacular feats (“Performance enhancers,” Friday letters). Why doesn’t Mr. Witcher ask the family of Lyle Alzado — who died from using anabolic steroids — and the families of other athletes who abused their bodies and brains, to join him in watching these buffed-up buffoons perform to his satisfaction?
