How many government failures can we take?

To the editor:

Thousands upon thousands of pages of confidential information leaked; a Border Patrol that is incapable of securing our borders; custom officials, DEA, ATF, FBI and others who can’t stop the illegal drug trade; a military not allowed to have what is necessary to fight terrorism; the TSA pat-down fiasco; high-paid politicians and bureaucrats who can’t figure out how to get the economy on track; and dozens of other useless government programs that do not work.

Makes one wonder why we even need a federal government.

Hire Snoopy

To the editor:

The federal government is spending hundreds of millions of dollars on scanners that can’t sense explosive compounds.

Wouldn’t bomb-sniffing beagles be more cost-effective — and cuter than Transportation Security Administration agents, too?

Model student

To the editor:

UNLV student Michael Flores really should be applauded for his efforts in making a difference in the lives of low-income children (“Volunteers bring hope to apartment residents,” Sunday Review-Journal).

Not only is he making these kids feel like they have a chance to be someone, but he is making it possible for the community to grow and become a little bit safer.

I think it is wonderful that Mr. Flores has spent his own money on supplies such as crayons and coloring books. He makes me proud to be a current student at UNLV. I also applaud all of the volunteers helping him get the resource center up and running. I hope the resource center eventually will receive the grants it needs to hire a few employees.
