Blame parties, not Tea Party, for fiscal cliff

To the editor:

Thank you, Sen. Harry Reid, for your public statement that the Tea Party is sending us over the fiscal cliff.

Just to set the record straight: The real Tea Party movement (not the fake Sarah Palin tea party) is just that, a movement, a consensus, not a political party. It is an expression of frustration by Democrats, Republicans, independents, liberals, Libertarians, Greens and the like, etc. It is an answer to the irresponsible leadership in Washington that has already taken us over the fiscal cliff.

The Tea Party is the new center, and you are the fringe, Sen. Reid. Our two parties have already overstayed their welcome. Eventually, you are going to answer to the Tea Party.

Christmas story

To the editor:

Yes, Virginia, there was a Saint Nicholas. No, Virginia, there is no Santa Claus. The real story of Christmas is so much more beautiful than the story of a fat dude going “Ho, ho, ho” and squeezing down chimneys on Christmas Eve.

The real story of Christmas is God becoming a baby – a human being like us. Jesus grew into a man, healed all kinds of sickness and cast out demons, and then He voluntarily let evil people put Him to death, a sacrifice so God could forgive all the sins of the world.

Then Jesus rose from the dead and returned to Heaven. But before He left He promised to return someday. That is the real Christmas story, and it will last long after you open your presents and Christmas Day is over.

The racist, greedy rich

To the editor:

The so called “productive” people may pay more taxes, but they are paying a smaller percentage of their income than middle-class people, who are having a larger chunk of their income taken. Even after paying more taxes, these “productive” people still have more income. And you don’t see their 50-year-old women on their feet, working as waitresses and cashiers.

And how productive is someone like Paris Hilton, who has never worked a day in her life, who has an air-conditioned, $300,000 dog house for her dog, while there are children who are homeless?

Unions like the Retail and Commercial Workers Union helped the middle class have a better life. Wages were decent. Anyone working on Sundays was paid double time, and triple time on holidays like Thanksgiving. They provided medical insurance that was less expensive than it is now.

Unfortunately, large corporations have broken the back of the retail union because greedy corporations that make millions of dollars won’t pay for decent wages and benefits.

A lot of laying off of people and cutting of hours is nothing more than a temper tantrum by people who can’t stand having a black Democrat as president.
