When viewed through polarized light in a microscope, a thin slice of meteorite reveals different types of crystals and structures in an array of colors. This 1.3 billion-year-old meteorite, only about 2 mm of which is shown here, was found in the Saharan Desert in 2016. (Arya Udry, UNLV)
