The Reno Navy League sponsored the USS Nevada’s 30th anniversary with a ceremony at Naval Base Kitsap – Bangor, Washington, on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.
Nevada’s namesake ballistic missile submarine, preceded in name by the only U.S. battleship to get underway during the Dec. 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor attack, was commissioned Aug. 16, 1986.
“The hard work of Nevada’s sailors for the last 30 years has kept the ship in great material condition that lets us keep going out on patrol for months at a time,” said Cmdr. Gene Severtson, commanding officer of the submarine’s Gold crew.
