New Vietnam Veterans Day event to be held Saturday

With a proclamation from Gov. Brian Sandoval, Nevada will mark its first Vietnam Veterans Day on Friday followed by an observance Saturday at the Gold Coast hosted by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 17.

The free public event begins 1 p.m. at Gold Coast’s Salon A conference room. In addition to speakers from representatives of Nevada’s delegation and Sandoval’s office, Rep. Joe Heck, R-Nev., will deliver a special address as will Air Force Col. Robert Novotny, commander of the 53rd Test and Evaluation Group at Nellis Air Force Base.

There will be a wreath presentation ceremony with a trumpeter playing Taps.

North Las Vegas Mayor Shari Buck is expected to attend along with Debra March of Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen’s staff, according to Don Leckburg, a member of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 17 board of directors.
