Nevada soldier killed by bomb in Afghanistan

A Nevada soldier based at Fort Wainwright, Alaska, has been killed in Afghanistan.

Officials said in a release Thursday that Sgt. Timothy Douglas Sayne of Reno was killed Sunday by a roadside bomb in Kandahar province.

The Army release said the 31-year-old Sayne was a cavalry scout assigned to the 5th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division at the base in Fairbanks. He joined the Army in February 2008 and was assigned to Fort Wainwright six months later.
