Mercedes-Benz Club donates car to disabled veterans

The Mercedes-Benz Club of America has donated a classic car to local disabled veterans so it can be sold to purchase a new van to transport veterans in Henderson and Las Vegas who can’t drive.

All proceeds from the sale of the 1987 Mercedes-Benz 420 SEL will go to the Disabled American Veterans of Southern Nevada to buy a van for taking veterans to medical appointments and Veterans Affairs facilities in the Las Vegas Valley, past Nevada DAV Commander Jeff Carson said in a statement, thanking club members for their donation.

“Unfortunately we, the Disabled American Veterans, continue to grow as more veterans return home with both physical and mental needs that must be addressed,” he said last week.

Donations to the veterans group can be made by mail to Las Vegas Disabled American Veterans at P.O. Box 571025, Las Vegas, NV 89159-1025 or to Henderson Disabled American Veterans at 4096 Crete Lane #A, Las Vegas, NV 89103.

The DAV operates 31 vans in Nevada to take veterans to medical appointments, VA clinics and hospitals.

The program operates with volunteer drivers and dispatchers Monday through Friday.

Last year, drivers transported 8,617 veterans over 307,000 miles, accounting for more than 28,900 volunteer hours.
