Fishing Report, Jan. 3

■ LAKE MEAD – Anglers continue to find success for striped bass in the Vegas Wash area, but the action has slowed in recent days. Cut anchovies seem to be the bait of choice, but plastic shad imitations also are getting a lot of action. Smallmouth and largemouth bass also still are hanging around. They also are keying in on shad look-alikes.

Reminder to boaters: In an effort to hinder the spread of aquatic invasive species, as of Jan. 1 all motorized and nonmotorized vessels able to retain water are required to obtain and display an AIS decal. Details can be obtained from a Nevada Department of Wildlife office or through the agency’s website, www.ndow.org.

■ LAKE MOHAVE – An 8-year-old boy reeled in a 7-pound striped bass at Willow Beach last weekend. He was fishing with an AC Plug. Farther south, anglers have been picking up a few smallmouth and largemouth bass while fishing grass beds in 20 to 30 feet of water. The weather has been nice on the lake with water temperatures a little on the cooler side at 50 degrees.

■ LAUGHLIN – The Colorado River is providing good action for those willing to brave the chilly temperatures. According to the folks at Rusty’s Riviera Marina, stocked rainbow trout seem to be schooling. So when you locate a prime spot, stick with it.

■ EAGLE VALLEY – The reservoir has frozen over, and the average ice thickness is 4 to 5 inches. Anglers are encouraged to use caution when venturing onto the ice. One fisherman has been catching rainbow trout from the dock while using night crawlers and small marshmallow pieces.

■ ECHO CANYON – The reservoir has frozen over, but the ice might not be thick enough to support anglers. Check with rangers before going onto the ice.

■ KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA – Ice fishermen have reported good fishing on Haymeadow and Cold Springs reservoirs. The ice is 4 to 6 inches thick near the dams and along the edges. The ice on Dacey and Adams-McGill reservoirs still is thin. Adams-McGill has fishable waters along the dike near the boat launch. Roads are covered in packed snow, but access is not a problem.

■ URBAN PONDS – Fishing has been good after the NDOW weekly trout plants. Anglers are finding success using a variety of PowerBaits, night crawlers and small spinners.
