Summerlin Starbucks to close after 25 years

Updated June 6, 2023 - 10:29 am

After serving up roasts for 25 years, the Starbucks at 1990 Village Center Circle, in Trails Village Center in Summerlin, is closing Sunday, an employee of the shop and a spokesperson for Starbucks confirmed.

That spokesperson characterized the closing as the result of a “normal business review.”

“When we find an area serviced by multiple stores, we take a look at if we need that many or if we need more. It’s not the only store in the area, so when we look at the spread of locations that we have and how best to serve the community as it is now, this was the outcome,” the spokesperson added.

Among nearby Starbucks are a location in the Albertsons across from the closing shop, and one about a mile away on North Center Drive.

But when one joe closes, another opens. Business license records show a license is pending for Mothership Coffee Roasters at 1980 Festival Plaza Drive, Suite 115, in Downtown Summerlin.

Mothership Coffee also has shops in Green Valley, Henderson and downtown Las Vegas, and a Sunrise Coffee House on East Sunset Road.

A previous version of the story cited a rent increase as the reason for the closing, as indicated by the Starbucks employee. The Starbucks spokesperson would not say a rent increase contributed to the decision to close the store. In an email to the Review-Journal, a representative for the owner of the center denied the closing is related to a rent increase.
