Rice & Co. caters to Asian cravings

Luxor management surveyed guests about dining options and discovered that they want three things: Chinese food, sushi and Italian.

With a sushi bar and several traditional Chinese dishes on the menu, the newly opened Rice & Co. covers two of the three, notes Jason Shkorupa, vice president of food and beverage.

Guests also said they want more affordable dining options. Rice & Co. has that covered, as well, Shkorupa says.

In March, the hotel began remodeling the space that was once the site of Fusia, a fusion Asian restaurant. The idea was to do something fun and whimsical with an approachable menu.

"What we wanted to do was take the current climate of the market and tame things down a bit and make sure we’re giving customers what they’re looking for," Shkorupa says.

The restaurant features two chefs, Denny Chen for Japanese and John Kan for Chinese cuisine.

The sushi bar offers all of the traditional sushi options as well as signature rolls such as the Fre Kin Gud and Sum Me Sum Yu rolls, while the menu features Chinese dishes such as chow fun, beef and broccoli and others.

The dining room seats 165 with an additional 60 seats available in the sushi lounge. Reservations are not required. Hours are 5-11 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and 5 p.m. until late night Fridays through Sundays.
