Remodeled Gold Spike’s goal is quality food at good value

When the new owners of the Gold Spike remodeled the casino’s restaurant, they did more than just change the furniture.

They built a brand new restaurant, replaced the furniture, bought new equipment and created a new menu, says spokesman Michael Crandall. The Golden Grille opened recently offering a variety of casual American food in a modern, no-frills setting.

The goal, Crandall says, was “value, value, value. That’s what we were going for. We want to be the best quality restaurant while offering value.”

The dining room was expanded and now seats about 60. White tables and chairs, along with stone features and a tile floor, accent the bright room.

The menu is partly L.A. inspired, says Crandall, who did a lot of taste-testing and has a hot dog featuring his last name, Crandall’s chili cheese dog ($3.99). The downtown dog, an all-beef frank wrapped with bacon ($3.99) is one of those hotdogs you see on menus in L.A. restaurants, he says. There’s something for nearly every palate, including hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, wraps, breakfasts, hot entrees, salads and more.

The Golden Grille is open 24 hours daily. Reservations are not required. For more information, call 380-2807.
