Omelet House brings old favorites, new addition to downtown

Omelet House, a perennial favorite among locals for breakfast and lunch, opened a downtown location last month.

The new location, in the Plaza, 1 S. Main St., isn’t much different from the existing restaurants, says co-owner Kevin Mills. The menu still offers the same favorite soups, sandwiches and omelets, such as the three-pound Kitchen Sink, that locals have been eating during the past 31 years.

Two things set the Plaza restaurant apart from the flagship on West Charleston Boulevard, though: a diner theme and a meatloaf omelet.

The dining room seats 140 and is decorated like a traditional diner with a red, white and black color scheme. Memorabilia from the 1950s, along with photos of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Elvis Presley, give the restaurant a retro look, Mills says.

In an homage to the diner theme, they added a "Don’t Let Your Meatloaf" omelet to the menu, Mills says. Or, you can get a grilled meatloaf sandwich, if you prefer.

The restaurant is open daily from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Soups and salads: Judge Roy Bean’s favorite ham and bean soup, chicken noodle soup or soup of the day, $1.99 for a cup or $4.59 for a bowl that comes with a choice of garlic toast, banana or pumpkin bread; Cajun chicken salad, $7.39

Appetizers: Fried zucchini, $4.79 half-portion, $6.99 full size

Entrees: Chile verde omelet, $8.89; huevos rancheros, $6.99; Patti Page patty melt, $7.19; stuffed French toast, $5.99
