Johnny McGuire’s Deli inventive with flavor profiles

Despite the name, don’t think of Johnny McGuire’s Deli as a deli in the traditional New York City sense of the word — particularly if your idea of a "deli" is a place that offers a strictly defined roster of pretty basic sandwiches.

"We do more of a handcrafted product," explains Keith McCoy, the shop’s general manager. "We use the term ‘deli,’ because people know we’re at least (about) sandwiches."

Johnny McGuire’s, 6599 Las Vegas Blvd. South, in Town Square, opened three months ago and is the Aspen, Colo.-based company’s second location. Its menu includes 29 specialty subs, both hot and cold, and an extensive roster of freshly cut fixings and freshly made condiments, some of which — curry mayo, wasabi mayo, homemade "ranchacado," or avocado/ranch, sauce — may well give a New York deli owner tsoris.

"We have flavor profiles you won’t see anywhere else," McCoy says.

Both specialty subs and build-your-own sandwiches are made to order, are built up on a foundation of home-baked wheat and white rolls — including sourdough and marble rye — and are available as a 6-inch "skinny" for $6.50, an 8-inch "regular" for $7.50 or a 12-inch "fatty" for $12.50.

Johnny McGuire’s also offers breakfast options, homemade soup, hot dogs, salads and a kid’s menu featuring PB&J, grilled cheese and "meatballs in a cup."

The restaurant seats 30, and delivery is available within Town Square. Johnny McGuire’s Facebook followers receive special offers and promotions, McCoy notes.
