Dragon Noodle Co. adds new lounge, dim sum menu

Nothing stays the same in Las Vegas, including restaurants. And that’s why diners who haven’t been by Dragon Noodle Co. & Sushi Bar for a while may be surprised by what they see.

Dragon Noodle, in the Monte Carlo, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. South, opened with the hotel in 1996, said general manager Helen Cheung. The restaurant received "a complete remodeling" last year, reopening in August.

Most noticeably, visitors now are greeted at the restaurant’s entrance by the new Cosplay Lounge, where servers wear costumes inspired by anime characters and mixologists serve up handcrafted tiki cocktails.

Meanwhile, Dragon Noodle’s classic Chinese-inspired decor, while revamped, remains.

Also remaining, albeit with updates, is Dragon Noodle’s classic menu of Chinese dishes based primarily on the Cantonese and Szechuan traditions.

"Some of the items we will explain to the customer," Cheung said, although customer favorites include such familiar names as Mongolian beef and sweet and sour pork. "A lot of this is pretty traditional."

However, Dragon Noodle also offers diners a few twists on Chinese/Asian classics. For instance, the sushi menu — available from 5 p.m. — includes a "jalapeno popper roll" featuring unagi and eel sauce ($12) and a "bacon & egg" roll made of soy-braised pork belly and topped with fried quail egg ($12).

Also available is a new dim sum menu and, as always, "first-class service," Cheung said.

Dragon Noodle enjoys a clientele that includes both tourist regulars and loyal locals.

"I feel real happy about the local people," Cheung added. "We do have the local people and they love our food."

Dragon Noodle Co. & Sushi Bar seats 180 and reservations, while not required, are preferred, Cheung said.

Hours are 11 a.m. -11 p.m. daily, with dim sum service daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Starters: Pot stickers, $8.25; salt and pepper calamari, $8.25; minced chicken in lettuce wrap, $13.95

Soups and salads: Hot and sour soup, $5.75; won ton soup, $6.95; soup noodles with chicken, $11.95

Entrees: Hong Kong chow mein, $18.95; walnut shrimp, $23.95; Mongolian beef, $17.95; spicy crab roll topped with spicy tuna, sliced jalapeno and sweet soy, $18; barbecued pork and vegetable fried rice, $10.95

Dim sum: Steamed pork siu mei, $3.50; steamed shrimp har gow, $4.50; barbecued pork steamed buns, $4.50
