Dining Pick of the Week: Waverly’s Steak House

Waverly’s Steak House

The Cannery, 2121 E. Craig Road, 702-507-5777

You don’t have to travel to the Strip to eat at a good steakhouse, but you do have to go through a casino. Waverly’s Steak House inside the Cannery offers locals an upscale steakhouse experience with reasonable prices, ranging from $30 to $50. The decor features dark wood-toned seating with dim lighting and life-size paintings on the walls. Soft jazz and piano music plays in the background, low enough to enjoy a conversation inside the 125-seat restaurant. To start, the server brings out a basket of warm white chocolate pecan and rustic white bread with lavash, an Armenian flatbread, and whipped butter. Appetizers include oysters on the half shell, portobello frites and pork loin satay. The escargot has a special twist as it’s made with fresh helix snails atop mushroom caps sauteed in olive oil and finished in a red wine sauce. Soups and salads are also available and include she-crab soup, French onion soup and Caesar salad. The restaurant signature salad is the strawberry spinach salad made with baby spinach, fresh strawberries, spiced pecans, mushrooms, red onions and sweet poppy seed dressing. For the main course, customers can chose from the New York, rib eye, T-bone, prime rib steak or filet mignon, which comes with crispy onion rings on top. It is served with mashed potatoes and your choice of French bordelaise sauce, bearnaise, horseradish, Waverly’s truffle buerre blanc or au poivre for dipping. Other notable entrees include lamb chops, swordfish, Alaskan king crab and cider-glazed pork chops. Each dish is prepared with precision and loaded with flavor. Waverly’s Steak House includes a full bar and is open from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
