The Fat Greek Mediterranean Bistro is a quiet cafe where blue and white paint clings to the walls, which are decorated in floral wall hangings and ceramic trinkets that provide the sentiment of home. The food is traditional Greek, overflowing with crisp, spicy flavors. The gyro, served with beef/lamb or chicken, features sliced onions, fresh tomatoes and tzatziki sauce ($7.50), or for 50 cents more, add feta cheese. The lamb meat is thinly sliced and perfectly cooked and seasoned. The chicken is juicy and oozing flavor. The pasticcio, Greek lasagna, is equally tastebud tantalizing, especially the supple tomato sauce with cheese sprinkles lining the bottom. The warm pita bread went beautifully with the babaganoush, the chunks of eggplant and herbs blended yet still crunchy. Dinner entrees range from $12.95 to $14.95 with the exception of the half rack of lamb chops ($19.95), cooked in oregano and garlic and served with lemon-roasted potatoes. The dish is a worthwhile extravagance. All entrees are served with soup or salad. The avgolemono soup is sublime with chicken, lemon, rice and a glory of spices ($3.50 for a cup or $5.50 for a bowl). A nicety was the option to pick and choose from the lunch and/or dinner menu. The extensive wine list offered selections imported from Greece, Italy and California; spirits and beer are also available. Copious desserts line the glass display: Baklava is $4.50, while chocolate-covered vanilla meringues are 35 cents each or three for $1. Gelato is $1.50 per scoop.
