Dining Pick of the Week: Pho MaiLan

Pho MaiLan

10895 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 140, 702-365-8989

If you’re looking for an authentic Vietnamese dining experience, a trip to Pho MaiLan is in your future. Diners will find a lot of traditional dishes on the menu, along with appetizers such as La Lot Beef (six for $10), minced spiced beef wrapped with herbs, vermicelli and anchovy sauce; grilled shrimp cake (three for $12) and egg or summer rolls ($6 per order). There are also Vietnamese sandwiches, which come wrapped in paper with a rubber band for $5. Made on a full baguette, each sandwich features veggies, spices, a thin layer of sauce and a choice of meat: grilled marinated chicken, pork or beef, or a combination of pork and beef ($6). There are also a variety of vermicelli noodle bowls and rice dishes made with pork, chicken, beef, shrimp, Vietnamese pork sausage, tofu, salmon and catfish. Pho (traditional Vietnamese broth-based noodle soup) starts at $7.50 and features chicken or beef with basil, cilantro, green onion, bean sprouts, lime, sliced onions and a pinch of jalapeno. Chicken pho comes with a choice of egg or rice noodles, while beef selections include steak, brisket, tendon, flank, round-eye, meatball and tripe. There’s also a seafood option with shrimp, crab meat, fishcake ball, squid and scallop. The atmosphere is casual but modern, with booth and table seating. For dessert, try the Banh Kem Flan (caramel custard with whipped cream). Beer and wine are available. Pho MaiLan is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. For more information, visit phomailan.com.
