Dining Pick of the Week: Old School Pizzeria

Old School Pizzeria

2040 E. Craig Road, 702-990-0070

Old School Pizzeria is a foodie’s idea of a neighborhood pizza joint. You won’t find toppings such as dates and pistachios —just two ingredients making up the splendid “Vegas Meets Italy” pie —just anywhere. That same pie features a slightly sweet date cream sauce in place of traditional red sauce and is finished with thin sliced prosciutto and heirloom cherry tomatoes. If more traditional toppings are your thing, Old School has some unique twists on those as well: The Carnivore features house-made sausage and meatballs, pepperoni, applewood smoked bacon, shredded chicken and ham. Also on the list of Chef’s Pizza Creations (most start at $18.50) is the Hard Core Old School, with wild broccoli, Mediterranean olives, a 6½-minute soft-boiled egg and white anchovie with mozzarella and tomato sauce. Patrons also can build their own pizza with toppings of their choice. Also on the menu are sides such as Garlic Rosemary Bread Knots (served with whole roasted cloves of garlic and a house-made ranch; $3.45 for six or $4.99 for a full order), Five Cheese Baked Mac ($12.50) and Crazy Good Chicken ($10.99), featuring Mary’s organic, pasture raised chicken, marinated in wood smoked and fruit juice-infused stock with thyme and garlic and served with Yukon gold potatoes and bread stuffing. Solo meals feature a slice and knots for $7.99, a slice and salad for $7.99 to $8.59 and a slice and stuffed chicken wing for $8.59. Save room for a cannoli for dessert. Old School Pizzeria is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and noon to 9 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit pizzaoldschool.com.
