Dining Pick of the Week: Maza Mediterranean Grill and Lounge

Maza Mediterranean Grill and Lounge

2550 S. Rainbow Blvd., Suite 1, 702-912-0050

Maza Mediterranean Grill and Lounge sits at the busy corner of Rainbow Boulevard and Sahara Avenue. Its nondescript exterior transforms inside to a subdued restaurant with dark wood floors and chairs in a sea of white linen-covered tables. The wall art looks like photographs at first glance but is actually hand-rendered. Appetizers include baba ganoush, tzatziki, hummus and sarma (stuffed cabbage). Don’t know what you want? Try the Maza Sampler with hummus, mutabbal, tabbouleh and sarma. Other platters are also available — a cheese platter (smoked Gouda, feta, English cheddar, nuts and mixed fruits), a meat platter (basturma, sujul and dry salami), a pickled vegetable platter (cucumber, cabbage, carrots, celery and cauliflower) and a fish platter (salmon, tuna and crab salad). There are four types of sandwiches: chicken shawarma with marinated chicken breast, tomato and onion on French bread; beef shawarma with marinated beef, tomato and onion on French bread; gyro with beef and lamb slices, cacik (Turkish yogurt with cucumbers and herbs), tomatoes, lettuce and onion; and Maza burger, a beef patty with mushrooms, bell pepper, onion, lettuce, tomato and house sauce. Entrees come with a side of rice or fries, mixed green salad, grilled pepper, grilled tomato and pita. Selections include the Sultan’s Delight, braised lamb over silky roasted eggplant; seafood kabob with marinated salmon and shrimp grilled over an open flame; rack of lamb, which is marinated meat skewered and grilled on an open flame; chicken adana kabob with seasoned ground chicken cooked over an open flame; and an assorted Maza Platter consisting of hummus, baba ganoush, tzatziki, sarma tabbouleh, ikra and falafel. Rounding out the selections are seafood pasta with mixed seafood, asparagus and a creamy butter sauce, chicken and mushroom fettuccine with broccoli and mushrooms, spaghetti and meatballs, Lebanese spaghetti, and spaghetti with meat sauce. Maza is open from 11 a.m to 10 p.m. daily. For more information, visit mazagrilllv.com.
