Dining Pick of the Week: Market Grille Cafe

Market Grille Cafe

7175 W. Lake Mead Blvd., 702-564-7335; 7070 N. Durango Drive, 702-396-0070

Market Grille Cafe opened in 2006. Owners Joe and Rhonda Pierro decided to specialize in Greek, Italian and Mediterranean food. Joe came from an Italian heritage where family recipes were passed down from generation to generation. Rhonda’s family hails from the Greek island Ikaria and had its own ideas on cooking. Combining their appreciation for good food meant patrons of Market Grille have a plethora of dishes from which to choose. Many dishes qualify as vegan. On the menu are appetizers starting at $4.25. They include hummus, eggplant-based babaganoush and dolmades (stuffed grape leaves). Platos potatoes will make you wonder why you ever loved French fries. Pizza starts with grilled pita bread on which a number of items can be added — homemade meatballs, feta cheese, roasted veggies, kalamata olives, grilled chicken, to name a few. Pizzas run about $8.25. Main entrees include mousaka, pastitsio and spanakopita, starting at $9.25 a la carte on basmati rice or $11.50 entree style (served with Greek salad, basmati rice, hummus and pita bread). Other dishes include pomegranate chicken, stuffed green peppers, lamb roasted caberbet and four grilled on skewer choices — filet tenderloin, salmon, chicken or vegetables. Hours at both locations are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and the Durango Drive location is also open from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
