Dining Pick of the Week: Gimme Some Sugar

Gimme Some Sugar

19 S. Stephanie St., Suite 160, 702-882-2537

It’s no wonder why author Ernestine Ulmer advised individuals to eat dessert first: Life is always better when you have some sugar. So, it was sweet when college friends Ashley Mastowski and Kristen LoVullo combined their passion for pastries and business backgrounds to open Gimme Some Sugar in 2009. The pair has dazzled in the spotlight, providing custom cakes for the likes of Paris Hilton, Holly Madison, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. In addition, the bakery offers custom cakes and sweets to the general public, including a “Sips and Sweets” happy hour starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Specials include fresh fruit pavlova (a meringue shell with whipped cream and fruit) with a glass of Le Grand Courtage Blanc or rose on Tuesdays; cheesecake with a glass of Charles Krug Late Harvest Zinfandel Port on Wednesdays; Tropical Tease (Malibu rum-soaked coconut jaconde, passionfruit curd and mango-passion creme) and a glass of Bernardus Sauvignon Blanc on Thursdays; and any dessert with a glass of wine on Fridays and Saturdays. In addition to specials, the shop sells cookies, macarons, cupcakes and more. Most items are $10 or less. Gimme Some Sugar is open from noon to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, noon to midnight Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Appointments are available Mondays.
