Comfort food, just the way you remember it

Las Vegans who miss the diners or luncheonettes where they grew up or, even, people who did not have these restaurants in their neighborhoods but want to embrace the experience of homemade comfort food served in a comfortable atmosphere can find it at Hometown Classic American Eats in Henderson.

Owner Rex Henriott says his restaurant, which opened in January at 65 W. Lake Mead Parkway , offers "classic comfort food in a dinerlike atmosphere. I’ve been waiting for a place like this to open here, so I decided to open it. I want to get to know the people who come in, as you would in any neighborhood place. I just want people to have good food and feel comfortable."

The restaurant offers daily blue-plate specials such as meatloaf, mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables; beef stroganoff over egg noodles with a salad; and pot roast with mixed vegetables, mashed potatoes and side salad, each for $7.99. There also is a south-of-the-border daily special featuring a homestyle Mexican meal such as a carnitas burrito served enchilada style with sauce on top and sides of rice and beans, for $7.99.

Breakfast is served any time. A children’s menu also is available.

Hometown Classic American Eats can seat 40 people in booths, tables and a counter. Patrons can dine in, take out and there is a limited delivery area.
