Victorino, Natural History Museum get ‘Tanked’
They still travel the country, but Las Vegans Wayde King and Brett Raymer are trying to keep things as local as possible for the fourth season of “Tanked” (10 p.m. Friday, Animal Planet).
“Anything of course that’s local for us is great. … We live here,” says King, the CEO of Acrylic Tank Manufacturing. “We like to keep everything here as much as possible. It’s easy to film.”
So while one of their higher-profile projects finds the duo in North Carolina to install a custom desk tank for NASCAR driver Ryan Newman — complete with racing helmet, naturally — at his family’s animal rescue facility, several of their elaborate projects hit a little closer to home.
On Friday’s season premiere, Toyota asks them to convert a 2014 Highlander into a SpongeBob-themed saltwater aquarium stocked with more than 20 species of fish for the SEMA automobile trade show in Las Vegas.
Future episodes find them making an illusionist-themed tank for local magician Seth Grabel and an interactive tank for the Las Vegas Natural History Museum. “We did a little carousel with sea horses,” King says of the latter. “That’s a great episode.”
Then there’s the Hawaiian-themed tank they built for Boston Red Sox outfielder and Las Vegan Shane Victorino that required a little extra assistance.
“We had to use a crane to get the tank in his house,” King says, “so that’s going to be fun to show on the show.”
