This year’s CES will look different than its predecessors, and not just because it’s going virtual — it’s also more diverse.
At least one convention thinks March is too soon for an in-person convention in Las Vegas.
Next year’s CES may not be in Las Vegas, but organizers are keeping ties to the city strong by partnering with the Review-Journal.
The timing was perfect. CES 2021 would arrive just after the LVCVA worked out any bugs in its new West Hall, but the arrival of the pandemic ruined all the coordination.
When the Consumer Technology Association returns the massive technology trade show to Las Vegas in 2022 it will offer a virtual version of the event at the same time.
The Licensing Expo has been postponed once again and is now scheduled to take place at the Mandalay Bay Convention center Aug. 10-12.
Crews finished the $980.3 million building in time for CES — which was canceled — but the LVCVA now must start paying for utilities and insurance without a revenue source.
According to a list compiled by the LVCVA, there are 36 events on the convention calendar in the first half of 2021.
The Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall expansion project is 96 percent complete.
As work crews put the finishing touches on the new West Hall and will add a solar power generating system, the first trade show since March prepares to arrive.
Thousands of Nevada business owners are unsure whether they’ll be able to stay afloat without another round of federal stimulus relief and a strong comeback of Las Vegas’ convention businesses.
“With positivity rates peaking during our key planning period we have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 show,” organizers said.
