Reid misguided about tea party’s future

To the editor:

I read Glenn Cook’s Sunday column, “Reid expects tea party to fade away,” and wondered immediately whether Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is living in the same country that I am — and maybe even if he is living on the same planet.

Sen. Reid and his fellow Democrats can blame the Republicans and the tea party all that they want, but the reality is that our current problems are the result of American voters putting both our Congress and the presidency into the hands of the party that wants socialism as a way of life.

Sen. Reid does not even know why the tea party came about. He says it was a response to a bad economy. It was the wasted trillions of dollars, over-the-edge spending, social programs put in place to gain votes for future elections, regulation of businesses that might have been able to hire people without the regulations and, worst of all, the blaming of the “rich.”

I guess that Sen. Reid has never heard of the American Dream. You know, the one where you work your way up to success, wealth and happiness. Instead, Sen. Reid wants to punish the rich and the oil companies. Maybe our illustrious senator ought to come down from his ivory tower in Washington and spend more time with us.

But then how would he keep his power in Washington if he did that?

Mr. Cook rightly states that the tea party is not going away. Why, you ask? Because the tea party is made up of American citizens who really aren’t as stupid as Sen. Reid thinks. We actually know how to budget our money, and we know that big government will not and cannot solve our problems. We actually know how to take responsibility for ourselves and how to solve our own problems. All we really need is for the government to get out of the way.

We want the government to stop spending money it doesn’t have. We want the government to stop all of the giveaways. We want the government to let us drill and use our own oil. We want the government to shrink, not expand.

Why doesn’t Congress follow our president’s lead and go on a permanent vacation? This way they can’t cause more damage.

No limits

To the editor:

In your Sunday editorial, “Another blow to ObamaCare,” White House adviser Stephanie Cutter justifies mandatory health insurance by stating, “Individuals who choose to go without health insurance are making an economic decision that affects all of us.” This same reasoning could be used to justify requiring any number of other types of insurance, including life, disability and long-term care.

U.S. Circuit Judge Stanley Marcus, in his dissent to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturning ObamaCare’s individual mandate, states the “undeniable fact that Congress’ commerce power has grown exponentially over the past two centuries.” It seems that this administration and activist judges believe there are no limits on government.

In response to Adrienne Packer’s Sunday column, “Reid ready to railroad anyone in pet project’s path”:

I’m sure if the train, DesertXpress, is ever built, it will be as successful as the Las Vegas Monorail.
