Court case concerns tax hikes on the ballot

To the editor:

Clark County voters should pay attention to the Nevada Supreme Court case today at 11:30 a.m. at the Regional Justice Center. This may be what keeps our taxes from going up.

The Debt Management Commission, chaired by Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager, wants to raise our real estate taxes by about $74.20 annually per $100,000 in assessed value. She says it’s for school repairs, but once it’s passed, who knows where the money goes? The case was brought by the Nevada Policy Research Institute, which argues the Debt Management Commission violated the open meeting law when they pushed this issue on November’s ballot.

Doesn’t the committee know we the taxpayers are hurting in Clark County, just hanging on, and can’t take any more taxes? The utilities going up are bad enough.

Ignoring the elephant

To the editor:

In response to Lawrence Mower’s Tuesday report, “Hospital’s future up for debate”:

Kudos to Mr. Mower for his article concerning the financial woes of University Medical Center without ever referring to “the elephant in the China shop” – the high percentage of illegal immigrants who use the emergency room and hospital facilities at no cost to them but a very high cost to us taxpayers.

Until Clark County Commissioners acknowledge this massive drain on the county’s only public hospital, I say let them swing by their own petard, which might even result in shutting down or privatizing this money-sucking public institution.

As was wisely stated in the movie “A Few Good Men,” our politically correct public officials just can’t handle the truth.

Disappointed in Clint

To the editor:

I always put Clint Eastwood on the highest pedestal of all the actors I ever admired. I must climb on a chair and help him down from that pedestal.

After hearing the most ignorant words to come out of my ex-idol, I have lost all respect for that man. One of two things must have happened Thursday at the Republican National Convention last week to explain that stupid and disgusting performance. Number one: He had too much doctored orange juice. Number two: Old age is starting to ravage his brain.

Mr. Eastwood, you would do well to continue chasing that little white ball and the young women. You once made my day, but now you and your kind make me ashamed to call myself a senior citizen.

Made my day

To the editor:

Clint Eastwood is a friend of mine. No, I’ve never met him, nor have I even seen him in person. But I grew up with him. He was in my living room for countless hours. Over the years I grew to like and respect him. He is among of the last of the true movie stars, like John Wayne and Charlton Heston – men we respected not because they were actors but because they were patriots. When he speaks, people of my generation listen.

I thought his routine at the Republican National Convention was funny. But more importantly, he said some things that needed to be said – most importantly that politicians are our employees, and when they don’t get the job done we need to let them go.

There were a lot of seniors watching, and a lot of people with a sense of humor. I love hearing the speeches and seeing our up-and-coming stars. Mr. Eastwood broke up that long line of speeches and make me laugh.

Between him and Sen. Marco Rubio, I think they gave the GOP Florida and an extra 2 or 3 points among seniors throughout the country. Presidential elections have turned on smaller numbers.

Now the best part: The gift that keeps on giving. There will be “Saturday Night Live” sketches. “The Daily Show” will keep it alive. MSNBC will keep pounding on it.

What is your first gut reaction when someone picks on a friend? You get angry. If that friend is a senior and you’re a senior, you feel attacked. Result? You get out and vote for your friend by voting for Mitt Romney.

In years to come, Clint Eastwood’s appearance might be looked at as the turning point in this election.

Busing them in

To The editor:

So just how popular is the president? Word has it that the Democratic National Committee is busing in college students, church members and anyone unlucky enough to be on the streets to fill Charlotte’s 74,000-seat stadium Thursday night, when Mr. Obama accepts his party’s nomination.

Wow. What an Obummer that is.

Who are the racists?

To the editor:

The Democrat accusations of Republican racism were amply put to the lie in the just concluded Republican National Convention in Tampa. Inspiring speeches by Mia Love, Ted Cruz, Bobby Jindal, Brian Sandoval, Susana Martinez, Nikki Haley, Artur Davis, Luis Fortuno and Condoleezza Rice are the proof of the contrary.

The only racist party now in America is the Democratic Party. Hear them talking – Sharpton, Jackson, Holder, Obama and their coterie of far-left goons, eco-extremists and the Hollywood and university “communistes de salon,” as they were known in France.

The effectiveness of last week’s Republican convention (especially Clint Eastwood with his empty chair) can be judged by the howls and complaints issued by the usual suspects – our Mainstream Media.
