Retired Army colonel to run Veterans Services
Gov. Brian Sandoval has picked retired Army Col. Kat Miller to replace Caleb Cage as director of the Nevada Office of Veterans Services.
“I’m honored to accept this responsibility and appreciate the confidence of the Governor in this appointment,” Miller said in a news release Tuesday.
She said her success in guiding the state’s veterans agency will ride on the shoulders of its 250 employees who help vets access services, benefits and opportunities that integrate them into Nevada communities.
Miller spent much of her 34-year Army career as a military police officer serving stateside and overseas. She was a brigade commander in Afghanistan.
Cage, a 2002 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., stepped down last week as veterans services executive director to start a new position in the governor’s office, director of the military and veterans policy.
Miller had been veterans services deputy director. With her promotion, the deputy position will be filled by Air Force veteran Willette Gerald, who served as a noncommissioned officer from 1975 to 1995. Gerald hails from Montgomery, Ala.
