‘Supernatural’ fans ready to sing out, geek out at the Rio
March 9, 2014 - 12:48 pm
Plenty of shows have more viewers than The CW’s “Supernatural.”
On Tuesday, its time slot competition “NCIS: L.A.” pulled in 12 million more.
But while some of them would no doubt shell out $99 for an LL Cool J autograph or $129 for a selfie with Chris O’Donnell, how many are rabid enough to show up for karaoke concerts hosted by two actors who made a combined six appearances on the series?
What “Supernatural” fans lack in numbers, they make up for in enthusiasm. And you’ll be able to hear the screaming for yourself as the Salute to “Supernatural” Convention descends on the Rio, Thursday through March 16.
If you need a reference point for the festivities, think “Hunky ‘Star Trek.’ ”
In addition to the karaoke with Richard Speight Jr. (Trickster/Gabriel) and Matt Cohen (Young John Winchester), the weekend will include a cabaret performance by Misha Collins (Castiel), auctions, costume and trivia contests, concerts, a cocktail party and appearances and autograph signings by more than 20 guest stars.
But the convention’s real draw, the reason several thousand attendees are expected from as far away as Japan, Australia and the United Kingdom, is the participation of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, better known to viewers as easy-on-the-eyes ghost, demon and anything else that goes bump in the night hunters Sam and Dean Winchester.
Their $99 autograph and $129 photo tickets sold out weeks ago, but you can still see them for yourself, and bask in their musky splendor, on Saturday.
Tickets are $30 for Thursday, $40 for Friday, $70 for Saturday and $60 for March 16.
