Dining Pick of the Week: Lulu Hawaiian BBQ

Lulu Hawaiian BBQ

6512 N. Decatur Blvd., No. 110, 702-784-0318

Hawaiian food is comfort food, and Lulu Hawaiian BBQ offers a setting where it is easy to feel comfortable. The unassuming eatery is located in the same shopping center as Walmart at Decatur Boulevard and the 215 Beltway. Stepping inside, diners are greeted quickly and offered a table if they are dining in, or you can order takeout at the counter. Regardless, the casual atmosphere dictates that your meal will be served in a Styrofoam container with plastic utensils. Portions are large: the mini plate comes with one scoop of rice and one scoop of the house macaroni salad, while the regular plate comes with two scoops of rice and one scoop of macaroni salad. Mini plates start at $5.55 for Hawaiian BBQ chicken and range to $6.25 for Hawaiian BBQ short ribs or Lau Lau (pork wrapped in taro leaf). Other options include beef, seafood and Spam entrees (Spam Musubi is $2.25). House specialties include honey walnut shrimp and honey chicken katsu. Beverages include Thai iced tea and boba drinks (strawberry, mango, taro). Catering is available, and delivery is offered for $2 for addresses within 4 miles. Lulu Hawaiian BBQ is open from 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
