Dining Pick of the Week: Buddha Belly Deli

There’s a pudgy new kid on the culinary block — Asian fusion restaurant Buddha Belly Deli. The food is a melting pot of flavors, with traditional Thai combined with Hawaiian and mixed with Chinese spices. Sandwiches ($8 to $9) include the Pho Dip (roast beef with Chinese 5 Spice soup for dipping), the Chicken Katsu Club (a Hawaiian fried delight that is sweet and tangy), the Char Siu Pork Roll (marinated pork shoulder with hoisin barbecue sauce) and Szechuan Shrimp Po-Boy (crispy shrimp with spicy mayo). Flatbread choices ($10 to $12) include Ginger-Scallion, Thai Red Curry and 9th Island Pizza with Portugese sausage, Spam, jalapenos, pineapple and mozzarella cheese. The menu also features two kinds of vegetarian wraps, salads, chowder and gumbo and sides ($2 to $4), including house made chips (potato tossed in Furikake Seasoning) and the self-explanatory Dragon Breath Fries. Smothered Fries are $8 and feature choice of Sloppy Joe or Japanese Curry (add a fried egg for $1.50). Coffee and tea selections include Thai iced tea (iced tea sweetened with sugar and condensed milk).
