Raiders report: Two offensive starters likely to miss Rams game

Updated October 18, 2024 - 1:18 pm

The Raiders will likely be without wide receiver Jakobi Meyers for Sunday’s road game against the Rams due to an ankle injury.

Meyers is expected to be the team’s No. 1 receiver the rest of the season after Davante Adams was traded to the Jets on Tuesday. Meyers did not practice Friday and was listed as doubtful for Sunday’s game.

He also missed the Raiders’ 32-13 loss to the Steelers last week with the same injury.

Starting right guard Dylan Parham will miss Sunday’s game with a foot injury. Coach Antonio Pierce indicated Parham is not expected to be out long-term.

Jordan Meredith played well against the Steelers when Parham went out. That could earn Meredith the start against the Rams, though Pierce said the Raiders are working through their options at that spot.

One potential fill-in is Thayer Munford Jr. The 25-year-old began the season as the Raiders’ starting right tackle, but he was displaced by rookie DJ Glaze the last three games while recovering from knee and ankle injuries.

Munford, who has played all over the line for the Raiders, is set to return Sunday.

“With our situation, we’re fortunate with Munford because he’s played in a lot of positions, right?” Pierce said. “We’ll just try to come up with the best five. But I thought Jordan Meredith did a really good job filling in, and he was ready to play the week before when (rookie left guard Jackson Powers-Johnson) was a little banged up. So, feel really good about those six gentlemen.”

Injury report

In addition to Parham, linebackers Tommy Eichenberg (quad) and Kana’i Mauga (knee) were ruled out for Sunday’s game. Both are key contributors on special teams.

Running back Zamir White (groin) is questionable after missing the last two games. Veteran Alexander Mattison is expected to get the bulk of the carries even if White returns.

Defensive tackle John Jenkins (illness) is questionable as well after missing practice Wednesday and Thursday. He was a full participant Friday.

The only other player with an injury designation for Sunday’s game is defensive tackle Adam Butler (knee/illness). He is questionable after not practicing Friday.

Stop the bleeding

The Raiders, coming off back-to-back blowout losses to the Broncos and the Steelers, figure to be significant underdogs their next three games before their bye week.

There’s a real possibility the team is 2-7 headed into the break.

Pierce said the Raiders needs to stop their negative momentum to make sure the season doesn’t get away from them.

“Yeah, a lot of frustration in the building,” Pierce said. “Because the last two weeks, I think we’ve seen wins and opportunity slip away in front of our hands by our own fault, right? … I have to do a better job of getting our guys going for 60 minutes.”

Crossover comparison

Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham was searching for an analogy for all the different ways Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford can beat an opponent.

He found one in another sport. He compared Stafford to 10-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony, who could score in a variety of ways.

“’Melo could give it to you any way you want,” Graham said. “Stafford could give it to you any way you want, too.”
