Crate and Barrel to open Thursday in Downtown Summerlin

Crate and Barrel fans rejoice! The first location in Nevada will open Thursday. The store is located in Downtown Summerlin near Lazy Dog Restaurant and Bar. Crate and Barrel is a popular home store focused on modern European style. Currently, much of the store is focused on holiday decor and entertaining. Crate and Barrel will open to the public Thursday at 10 a.m.

Nellis commander fired over superior’s ‘loss of confidence’

A Nellis Air Force Base commander has been fired over his superior’s “loss of confidence.” Lt. Col. Jearl C. Allman was relieved of duty as commander of the 99th Security Forces Squadron by Col. Paul J. Murray, commander of the 99th Air Base Wing at Nellis. The 99th Security Forces Squadron provides anti-terrorism protection, police services and flight-line security for Nellis and Creech Air Force bases. Staff Sgt. Jason Couillard confirmed the news but would not elaborate. Maj. John Hart assumed command of the squadron on Oct. 17.

Artist draws portraits of 58 Las Vegas shooting victims

An artist in Ohio has drawn portraits of the 58 victims of the Las Vegas shooting. Ron Moore Jr. flew to Nevada Monday to hand-deliver the last three portraits, including one of Metropolitan Police Department officer Charleston Hartfield. Over 25 days, Moore dedicated nearly 175 hours to drawing portraits of the victims. Moore was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2004. He prayed that if God would give him the ability to draw again, he would use his talent to bless others. Moore also surprised Las Vegas police with a painting of an eagle. The painting and Hartfield’s portrait will remain on display inside the Las Vegas police headquarters’ main lobby.

7 cases of Legionnaires’ disease tied to Las Vegas’ Rio hotel

7 cases of Legionnaires’ disease are now tied to Las Vegas’ Rio hotel. 29 more cases are suspected. In addition, there have been 56 suspected cases of Pontiac fever at the hotel. The outbreak was first reported in June. The hotel’s water system continues to be cleaned and tested. Legionnaires’ spreads when water droplets in the air containing the Legionella bacteria are inhaled. Prompt treatment with antibiotics usually cures Legionnaires’, but left untreated it can be fatal.

Las Vegas’ new soccer team introduced its head coach Tuesday. José Luis Sánchez Solá, better known as “Chelís”, will put together the Las Vegas Lights FC for 2018. Owner Brett Lashbook said Chelís fit with the attacking style of play he wants the team to be. Chelís previously coached Puebla in Liga MX and was the coach of Major League Soccer team Chivas USA. Chelís is currently an analyst with the ESPN Deporters’ daily soccer show Futbol Picante.

The event included a tribute to the 58 people who died in the Oct. 1 mass shooting. “For the Raiders to be successful and ultimately win, it takes teamwork,” Raiders owner Mark Davis said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Gov. Brian Sandoval were the top dignitaries on hand. “Only in Vegas can you turn a groundbreaking ceremony into a show,” Goodell said “Well … now it’s real, right?” Sandoval said. “This is one of the most transformative moments in the history of Las Vegas.”
