The Arts District stays safe under the careful eye of Champ Wilson. He is the “chief security officer” of the Arts District. At dawn and at dusk he completes his route to check the doors and gates of 27 businesses and makes sure they’re locked. Everyone knows him, business owners and visitors. He sweeps the alleys and helps different businesses with work. In return they gave him meals and coffee. He’s a welcome fixture in an area that’s slowly growing.

Trump lifts ban on importing heads of hunted elephants

The Trump administration will allow legally hunted elephant trophies from Zimbabwe and Zambia to be imported to the United States. The decision reverses a ban put in place by the Obama administration in 2014. According to ABC News, a U.S. Fish and Wildlife official confirmed the proposed rule change. a spokesperson said. Savanna elephant populations declined by 30 percent between 2007 and 2014, according to the Great Elephant Census published last year.

Pedestrian fatalities hit an all-time high in Clark County

With six weeks remaining in 2017, Clark County has already logged its deadliest year on record for pedestrians. So far, 62 walkers were fatally struck as of Thursday, eclipsing the previous all-time high of 60 killed in 2015.
