A federal judge in Las Vegas cut short the testimony of an Idaho gun enthusiast in the middle of his Bunkerville standoff retrial.

Eric Parker was photographed in April 2014 pointing a long gun through a barrier on I-15 that overlooked a ditch where protesters had gathered to face BLM agents.

Before the start of the trial, U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro barred the defense from referencing constitutional rights to freely assemble and to bear arms.

Prosecutors first objected to Parker’s testimony about 20 minutes after he took the stand and uttered the words “First Amendment.”

After spending less than an hour testifying on the stand, Parker seemed to reference the area where he believed a sniper had been.

Acting U.S. Attorney Steve Myhre objected and requested a meeting with the judge and defense attorneys.

Moments later, Navarro returned to the bench and told Parker to step down.

Attorney Jess Marchese said Navarro ruled Parker had violated a court order by describing what he saw.

A teen faces charges after a Las Vegas nursing student was shot to death in his driveway.

Police records implicated De’Mario Lofton-Robinson in the deadly shooting, which Lt. Dan McGrath said happened “for no apparent reason.”

Lofton-Robinson, 18, was arrested Thursday on charges of murder with a deadly weapon, attempted robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery.

He’s being held in Clark County Detention Center without bail.

The student killed, Gabriel George Valenzuela, 24, got into a confrontation with four young men.

He was shot at least three times and died at the hospital.

His family was inside the house during the shooting and heard the gunshots.

Police say a love triangle sparked a deadly east Las Vegas shooting.

Angel C. Fabre, 42, told a roommate he was “afraid something was going to happen.”

Fabre mounted a security camera in the front of the house just hours before his death.

When Fabre spotted a familiar car on video and stepped outside to check, two men began firing multiple rounds.

Fabre died about 2 a.m. at Sunrise hospital.

Larry Rinker and Jimmy Roper face charges of open murder and domestic battery.

They are being held at Clark County Detention Center without bail.

The school board won’t vote on it now because of concerns over a new state law requiring background checks for volunteers.

The district’s policy would require volunteers to pay the $60 cost of background checks.

Teachers and parents say that would deter people from donating their time.

The school district has had an ongoing problem with sexual misconduct between employees and students.

More than a dozen teachers were arrested last year on such charges.

It’s unclear when the policy will go back before the board for a vote.

A 34-year-old man arrested Wednesday in connection with a stabbing on the Las Vegas Strip is being held on $10,000 bail.

Police arrested Joseph Espinoza. He was charged with attempted murder and battery with a deadly weapon.

A homeless man stabbed a security guard in the chest just before 7 a.m. Wednesday inside the Palazzo.

The security guard, who is expected to survive, was stabbed after he approached a man who was holding a knife and behaving erratically, according to police.

The stabber ran out of the hotel and across Las Vegas Boulevard, police said, making it as far as the The Mirage before he was caught.

Makayla Rhiner’s friends and family do not want her death to be without purpose.

The 21-year-old was killed in front of her southwest valley home last week, and police arrested an ex-boyfriend in connection with the crime.

The family has set up a memorial fund under Rhiner’s name at Wells Fargo Bank. The money will go to a domestic violence group.

Police officers found Rhiner’s body at an apartment complex on the 8000 block of West Russell Road, near Buffalo Drive.

She died of multiple stab and incision wounds to the chest and neck.

Brandon Hanson, 33, was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Saturday on suspicion of murder.

A police report said he was severely depressed over the couple’s breakup in June.

The couple dated for about three months after meeting while attending classes at the College of Southern Nevada.

Hanson took the breakup badly, threatening to kill himself and vandalizing cars belonging to Rhiner’s mother and her new boyfriend, the report said.

He told police he had done everything he was accused of and that he was suffering from severe depression.

A petition has been filed to recall Henderson Senator Joyce Woodhouse.

Former Republican Assemblyman Stephen Silberkraus is leading the recall effort.

Nevada law does not require a reason to file a recall petition.

Silberkraus and Woodhouse did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

State Senate Majority Leader Aaron Ford blasted the effort, calling it a “pitiful attempt to subvert the will of voters.”

For the effort to succeed, signatures would need to be gathered from 25 percent of people who cast a ballot in the Senate District 5 in 2016. If that happens by Oct. 31, a date would be chosen to hold a special election.

Former Las Vegas City Councilman Bob Beers, 57, plans to run for Nevada state treasurer in 2018.

State Treasurer Dan Schwartz, also a Republican, has expressed an interest in running in the GOP primary for governor in 2018 instead of seeking a second term as treasurer.

Attorney General Adam Laxalt is also expected to enter the GOP primary for governor.

Beers served in the legislature from 1998 to 2008. He was in the Las Vegas City Council from 2012 to 2017.

A woman is in critical condition after she was slashed in the throat Aug. 10 in a central valley apartment complex.

Officers responded about 4 a.m. at 1500 E. Karen Ave., near East Sahara Avenue and Maryland Parkway.

The woman was taken to the hospital.

The attacker is still at large.

Before allowing the project to continue, Clark County has multiple requests:

That a deconstruction plan be in place if the stadium project stops.

That close to 14,000 off-site parking spaces be ready within one year.

And that infrastructure upgrades wholly necessitated by the stadium be provided by the Raiders.

A 30-foot-wide pedestrian bridge spanning Interstate 15 to link the stadium to the Strip is planned.

Consultants expect almost a third of game attendees to walk from hotel rooms located within a mile of the stadium.

The first segment of southbound Interstate 11 will open at 5 a.m. Tuesday.

It runs more than two miles between Railroad Pass hotel and U.S. Highway 95.

Drivers headed south on U.S. Highway 93 will be directed onto southbound I-11’s lanes near the casino.

From there, vehicles will get to use a new 600-foot-long flyover bridge that connects I-11 with the overlapping U.S. highways 93 and 95.

Drivers headed north on U.S. 93 won’t get to use I-11, but traffic lanes will be slightly shifted so that crews can complete the freeway.
