Carlos Alvarez is experiencing a rebirth with Lights FC

Lights FC midfielder Carlos Alvarez is on pace for a career year. The attacker already has two assists in two games this season. His play is likely going to draw the attention of higher-level clubs. I’m pretty sure that Carlos doesn’t want to end the season with us. Why? Because I’m sure one high level team will take him during this season. For his part, Alvarez isn’t focused on another team coming after him. My only thought, my only thinking is the Lights. That’s who I’m playing for and that’s who I want to give my best to because at the end of the day I want to be the best at my position.

Cleveland Cavalier’s Coach Tyronn Lue to Temporarily Step Away from Coaching The team announced the news on Monday morning, citing health issues as the reason for the leave of absence. After many conversations with our doctors and [General Manager Koby Altman] and much thought given to what is best for the team and my health… …I need to step back from coaching for the time being and focus on trying to establish a stronger and healthier foundation from which to coach for the rest of the season. The Lights FC opens its season at 7 p.m. Saturday at Fresno FC. The match is the first of the team’s 34 regular-season games. The Lights goal is to make the playoffs in their first year. To do that, they’d have to finish in the top eight of the 17-team Western Conference. We’re definitely excited for the season to kick off already and to see what the other teams have in store for us because we know we’re ready.

UNLV faces tough final month of 2018 football season

The Mountain West, which released the 2018 football schedule Thursday, gave UNLV a challenging final month of the season. The Rebels play Western Division champion Fresno State at Sam Boyd Stadium on Nov. 3, travel to San Diego State and Hawaii the following two weeks, and close the season at home against rival UNR on Nov. 24. UNLV, which opens Sept. 1 at Southern California, was 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference last season. Sanchez enters his fourth season, having increased the victory total by one each of the previous three seasons. “It’s an interesting schedule when you look at the way it’s broken up,” Sanchez said. “It’s really orderly.”

By the numbers: Expectations, challenges for Las Vegas’ WNBA team

The newly relocated Las Vegas WNBA franchise will begin play in the 2018 season. New owners MGM Resorts will integrate a professional franchise into Las Vegas’ busy sports landscape that’s shared with the 51s, Lights FC, Golden Knights and Raiders. Here are some of the expectations and challenges the team will have. 1. Ticket prices: The key to any sports franchise is selling season tickets and group outings. For Las Vegas’ team, that starts with locals. “(You don’t) just open the doors and tell everybody you’ve got a game and stand there waiting to sell tickets,” 51s president Don Logan said. “You’ve got to get out, you’ve got to get out into the community and you’ve got to do everything we do. There’s no easy way.” Last year, San Antonio charged $12 to $165 for single-game tickets for 17 home games. 2. Creating an identity: Coach Bill Laimbeer inherits a team from San Antonio that hasn’t made the playoffs or had a winning season since 2012. Las Vegas’ team is also a franchise that lost its first 14 games last season before finishing a league-worst 8-26. 3. Patience will be required: Will they have to fill all 12,000 seats at Mandalay Bay for the season to be deemed successful? “They have to be realistic,” Connecticut Sun CEO Mitchell Etess said. “If they could get 5,000 bodies into every single game, that would be pretty good for the first year.”

Hit show ‘Fixer Upper’ announces Season 5 will be the final season

Looks like some Texas houses wont be getting fixed up anymore. The hit HGTV show “Fixer Upper” just announced it is ending after this season. The hosts, Chip and Joanna Gaines, made the announcement on their website. It is with both sadness and expectation that we share the news that season 5 of Fixer Upper will be our last. While we are confident that this is the right choice for us, it has for sure not been an easy one to come to terms with.
