Hilton’s Waldorf Astoria luxury brand expects to plant its flag on the Strip when it takes over operation of the 392-room Mandarin Oriental at CityCenter in August. CityCenter Holdings, a subsidiary of MGM Resorts International, announced in April that it was selling the 47-story property and adjacent retail properties to an undisclosed buyer for $214 million. The Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas, as it will be known, is one of two non-gaming properties at CityCenter, but is adjacent to Aria and its casino. Waldorf Astoria Las Vegas will participate in Hilton Honors, the company’s guest-loyalty program for Hilton’s 14 brands. French cosmetics supplier Sephora is poised to build a 714,000-square-foot regional distribution center in North Las Vegas, pending the approval of $3.12 million in state tax incentives. If the incentives are approved Thursday by the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, then Sephora likely will start building its warehouse in August at a new industrial complex under construction a few miles from the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Sephora plans to hire 60 employees within the first two years of opening in May 2019, with an average hourly wage of $24.05, according to documents filed with GOED. Sephora’s warehouse will be next to an 800,000-square-foot fulfillment center for Amazon, set to open late next year.
A woman in her 80s was hospitalized early Wednesday morning after she was beaten and robbed inside her room at a downtown Las Vegas hotel-casino. The woman was trying to unlock the door to her room just before 1:30 a.m. at the 4 Queens, 202 Fremont St., according to Metropolitan Police Department Lt. David Gordon. When the woman opened the door the man forced his way inside and attacked her, striking her in the face and robbing her. The woman was taken to the hospital with injuries to her face, Gordon said.
