Judge dismisses 14-count indictment against Las Vegas attorney

A judge has dismissed the 14-count indictment against a Las Vegas attorney. Alexis Plunkett, 36, broke down in tears. She was charged with improperly providing a cellphone to jail inmates. Plunkett has said she is in a relationship with one of the inmates, 26-year-old Andrew Arevalo. Judge Michael Villani said he was dismissing the indictment because he did not believe the state’s argument applied to Plunkett’s case.

24 face fraud charges in Las Vegas car crash scheme

24 people face fraud charges in a Las Vegas car crash scheme. The crashes would happen in the east valley, most on Nellis Boulevard. The scheme typically involved two cars that would brake suddenly, causing a victim behind them to rear-end the second car. One defendant, Julio Caesar Gonzalez, allegedly drove in 17 of the staged crashes. Another defendant, Edgar Betancourt Preval, is a local dentist. At least one crash sent an elderly couple to a hospital; in another, an 11-year-old child was inside the targeted vehicle. As of Monday morning, 10 people had been arrested.

Las Vegas police looking for 7 people after violent robbery near Strip

Las Vegas police are searching for seven people involved in a violent robbery near the Strip.

Two men were robbed and beaten on Aug. 25 at a shopping center.

Police say a woman stole property from one of the men, sparking an argument between the pair, another woman and five other men.

As the two men walked away, the group followed, attacking and robbing them again, police said.

Surveillance footage shows six of seven suspects.

Man falls to death after standoff atop 10-story building in Las Vegas

A man fell to death after a standoff atop a 10-story Las Vegas apartment building.

Police negotiated with the man for several hours Thursday.

At one point they gave the man water.

Police planned to wait him out, hoping the sun would wear him out and he would come down safely.

During the incident, police closed Flamingo Road between Cambridge Street and Maryland Parkway.

Las Vegas woman arrested in death of actor from ‘Star Trek’ attraction

A Las Vegas woman has been arrested in the death of a ‘Star Trek’ attraction actor.

70-year-old Charles Deishley performed at “Star Trek: The Experience” inside the then-Las Vegas Hilton for a decade.

He was found dead with a gunshot wound on Dec. 9, 2013, at a home on Alta Drive.

Now Kelleen A. Cota, 57, has been booked into the Clark County Detention Center.

She is being held without bail on charges of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon and conspiracy to commit murder.

Woman charged with trying to kill baby in McDonald’s toilet

A California woman is charged with trying to kill a baby in a McDonald’s toilet.

Cashier Sarah Lockner, 25, went to work Sept. 4 at a Redwood City McDonald’s complaining of stomach pains.

Lockner told investigators that she didn’t know she was pregnant.

Prosecutors say she tried to kill her baby by flushing her down a toilet.

The newborn wasn’t breathing when paramedics arrived.

Pramedics revived the baby. It is in stable condition, but it’s unknown whether the baby suffered brain damage.

Lockner is charged with attempted murder and remains in jail on $11 million bail.

1-year-old Las Vegas boy with history of being abused dies

A 1-year-old Las Vegas boy with a history of being abused has died.

Carter Lopez was found unresponsive Sept. 5 and hospitalized.

He was listed in critical condition before dying Sept. 8.

His cause and manner of death were pending.

Las Vegas court bailiff drowns while tubing

A Las Vegas court bailiff drowned while tubing in Idaho.

William Datthyn, 45, was on the Bear River on Sept. 3.

He hit some rocks, his tube deflated and he was pulled into rapids.

His family pulled him from the river and CPR was attempted.

Datthyn was employed as a deputy marshal since December 2006.

Dangerous, drunken swim at Hoover Dam gets tourist arrested

A dangerous, drunken swim at Hoover Dam ended with the arrest of a tourist.

Arron Hughes, 28, of Wales, climbed down the rocks Aug. 10 and swam across the reservoir along the upstream side.

It was reportedly a quasi-dare from his friends during a bachelor party.

Officers were waiting on the other side. He was released with a citation and a $330 fine.

Authorities say the illegal act could have killed Hughes if he had gotten pulled under by the dam intakes.
