• A man claiming self-defense in a fatal shooting at an apartment near Nellis Air Force Base is charged with murder. Kevin Charles Hoskins says he killed an intruder at the Rubix apartments, but police say the altercation happened in a hallway, not in Hoskins’ doorway as police were initially told.
• A small neighborhood hospital is opening soon in North Las Vegas. Dignity Health- St. Rose Dominican will be at 1550 West Craig Road. The complex cost about $25 million dollars and will employ about 90 people.
• Prepare for a traffic nightmare on Interstate 15 this weekend. About 140,000 people are heading to the Electric Daisy Carnival at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The worst traffic is expected Monday morning.

1. UNLV graduate Tomi Lahren is set to make her return to Las Vegas today. The viral political commentator will speak at the Real Chamber of Commerce’s gala night. Lahren says she will discuss her views on business innovation, social media and free-market capitalism.

2. Three men are in custody after federal authorities seized thousands of MDMA pills. Jordan Cambridge was arrested after selling over 5,000 ecstasy pills to an undercover agent, leading to the search of his “stash house” in North Las Vegas. That’s where police say they found another 5,000 pills. Cambridge and the two other men were arrested just two days before EDC.

3. The man accused of killing the hitman he hired to kill his sixth wife is asking a Las Vegas judge for permission to wear a Tony Romo Dallas Cowboys jersey to his trial. Thomas Randolph’s lawyer says he wants to wear the jersey because he’s a fan. The request will have to go through the jail since the jersey would be part of his trial wardrobe. Opening statements are set to begin today.

• The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority board of directors have approved a $1.4 billion upgrade to the convention center. The board voted unanimously to approve the expansion and renovation project. Now administrators can get to work seeking a construction manager. The projects are expected to be finished by 2023.
• The new flyover ramp at the Centennial Bowl interchange will open July 12. The 60-foot-tall bridge will link the 215 Beltway with southbound U.S. Highway 95.
• A North Las Vegas man is accused of attacking his girlfriend when she refused to take a selfie with him. Police say 19-year-old Dasean Williams punched, choked and threatened the woman with a gun. He’s been arrested on assault and attempted murder charges and is due in court June 23.
• The Clark County School District will pay $900,000 to settle claims that an autistic student was improperly restrained by a teacher’s aide. The family claims the restraint happened to their then 11-year-old son at Variety School during the 2011-2012 school year.

After spending months insisting that Education Savings Accounts were “vouchers,” a majority of Democrats in both houses voted to expand a program of private-school choice that resembles vouchers in many ways. And liberal special interests groups applauded them.
It was a bizarre ending to a session that held so much promise for the 8,000 students, including my child, who’ve already signed up for education savings accounts.

• Health officials will spray an area of North Las Vegas Friday to fight a mosquito species capable of spreading Zika and other viruses. The mosquito was found locally for the first time last week, but all of the ones captured have tested negative for Zika.
• Vegas Vickie is being taken down on Fremont Street. She’s being removed Monday as part of construction on a new hotel-casino on the site of the Las Vegas Club.She was created in 1980.
• A new report ranks Nevada fourth in the nation when it comes to solar capacity. The state has moved up one spot since last year.
• Boulder City’s city manager has resigned. J. David Fraser started in 2013 but did not say why he was stepping down. Public Works Director Scott Hansen has been appointed interim city manager.

• Two closed Las Vegas casinos will temporarily reopen later this month to hold onto their gaming licenses. Las Vegas Club and Mermaids will each offer play for eight hours on June 27th and 28th respectively.
• A robot vacuum company from Canada plans to open a plant in Henderson. It will be Bobsweep’s first manufacturing operation in North America. The company says it hopes to start manufacturing this year and hiring this summer.
• Two more Kmart stores are slated to close in the Las Vegas Valley. One is near Sunset and Sandhill roads. The other is on Racetrack Road in Henderson. Another Kmart closed in Henderson in March.
• An earthquake rattled Northern Nevada residents Tuesday. It was centered south of the Gardnerville Ranchos area. There were no immediate reports of damage.
