Technical director Jose Luis Sanchez Sola returns to Lights FC sideline

Guess who’s returning to the Lights’ touchline? Technical director Jose Luis Sanchez Sola’s four-game USL suspension is now over. He will coach a regular season-game Saturday for the first time since April 27. The Lights went 0-2-2 in his absence. Now Sola will return to try to pull the team out of its skid. These five weeks he has been with us every day, every single time. He traveled with us to Colorado, Salt Lake City. If he’s on the bench, he’s probably more explosive. Yelling 90 minutes. That’s his energy. That’s always his energy.

The USL suspended Lights FC technical director Jose Luis Sanchez Sola seven games. Sola made contact with an official after last Friday’s 3-1 loss to San Antonio FC. My finger did make contact one time with the referee, for which I want to apologize many times. But my action and my only intention was to point to him. Without intention, and with one finger, you can’t hurt anyone. I made a mistake in touching the referee with my finger. It will not happen again. Sola will be eligible to return to the sidelines on June 16 as of now. The Lights are appealing his suspension. Obviously, no one should ever touch a referee. And obviously, we don’t condone the behavior. However, there are clear differences between a poke and something more serious. I have personally spoken with multiple eyewitnesses, all of whom corroborate (Sola’s) version of the events. We look forward to the appeal process and will respect the decision of the Independent Discipline Panel once it is rendered. Again, the incident never should have happened, and (Sola) was the first person to say so afterwards.

The Lights FC was without its coach and technical director Monday. Both were suspended for their actions after Friday’s 3-1 loss to San Antonio FC. Any additional punishment will be announced later this week. In their absence, the team knows everyone else needs to step up. Myself, also (captain) Joel (Huiqui) and all the people on the field we had to gel because (technical director Jose Luis Sanchez Sola) was not there to scream at everyone

The Lights FC’s defense has struggled this preseason. The team allowed nine goals in its first three games. That’s drawn the ire of coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola. We cannot concede so many things so easily. We are giving them things. They are winning without any effort. The Lights are trying to balance being aggressive on offense and smart on defense. We’ve definitely seen all three games that we have to be a little smarter when you’re that aggressive.

The Lights looking for another sellout after 10,387 fans attended their first preseason game. The Lights are also hoping to score after losing 2-0 last Saturday. Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola wants his forwards to move more to create chances. We need to have more options to pass in the second half of the field. More passes, more movement.

The Las Vegas Lights FC are building their team differently than other USL clubs. Coach Jose Luis Sanchez Sola is the only Mexican coach in the USL. Sola is using his reputation and connections to sign Mexican players the Lights feel other clubs are overlooking. Lights signees Joel Huiqui and Gerardo Lugo both said Sola was the main reason they came to the team. Both have experience with the Mexican national team. The Lights are hoping to add more players like them for their inaugural season.
