Centennial’s Amanda Sink sets state record with 20 strikeouts

Centennial beat Durango 12-0 on Wednesday, but that was only part of the story. Centennial righty Amanda Sink struck out 20 batters, a state record for a seven-inning game. It was a pitchers’ duel early, with Durango’s Trinity Valentine matching Sinkl through three innings. But Centennial broke through in the fourth, and put it away in the fifth. Centennial will play Palo Verde on Wednesday, and Durango will play Bishop Gorman.

Durango softball beats Desert Oasis, 12-6

Durango’s softball team earned a 12-6 road win over Desert Oasis on Thursday
to lock up second place in the Southwest League. Kaitlin Fazenden hit a two-run homer in the third inning
to get the Trailblazers on the board. Winning pitcher Trinity Valentine hit a two-run single in the fourth to give Durango the lead for good. Valentine and Alexis Geraldo each drove in three runs for Durango, which had 13 hits. The Trailblazers took two of three games from the Diamondbacks, and will be the league’s No. 2 seed in the upcoming Sunset Region tournament.

Kaden Renshaw enters the state tournament with a shot at the 152-pound title He won the Sunset Region title last week, and will have a first-round bye But he’s not just a wrestler He helped Durango’s football team reach the postseason with a 6-4 record He threw for 1,193 yards and nine TDs, and ran for 540 yards and nine more scores He went 41-1 this wrestling season, and the state tournament begins Friday morning
