Darryl Smith, 36, has been charged with DUI, reckless driving in connection with a Jan. 7 crash that killed a woman and her two young sons.
Three-year-old Taylor Wilmer died at the scene after the silver Honda van she was riding in hit a palm tree head on near a curve of Scott Robinson Boulevard, north of Lone Mountain Road, in a suspected DUI crash. Two-year-old Rose Wilmer was taken to University Medical Center, and died in the early hours of Monday morning, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Saturday in the Western Las Vegas Valley.
The crash happened at 1:13 p.m. at the intersection of W. Twain Ave. and S. Rainbow Boulevard.
Traffic will be shut down in all four directions at the intersection for at least a couple of hours, Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Ken Nogle said.

One person died and another suffered life-threatening injuries after a Thursday morning crash in a North Las Vegas neighborhood. The crash occurred at 5:30 a.m. on Tonopah Avenue, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Pecos Road. A sedan traveling east on Tonopah crashed into a parked pick-up truck, killing the 29-year-old driver. A 23-year-old passenger was taken to UMC with life-threatening injuries. The driver’s death marks the 13th traffic fatality NLVPD has investigated this year.
Five people died Sunday in a fiery crash about 85 miles northwest of Las Vegas. Police received a call about a three-vehicle crash on U.S. 95 near Amargosa Valley in Nye County around 4:30 p.m. A northbound car was attempting to pass a pickup and when it moved into the southbound lane to pass, it collided head-on with another car, then hit the side of the truck.
The truck flipped over, and the man driving died at the scene. The woman in the truck was hospitalized and is expected to survive. The northbound car burst into flames, killing both people inside. The southbound car also had two people inside who died at the scene.
U.S. 95 was closed until shortly after midnight when it reopened.
A man died Tuesday morning in a single-vehicle crash in northeast Las Vegas.
The crash occurred Tuesday morning on the 1900 block of Pasadena Boulevard, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Mt. Hood Street. Police had few details, but Metro’s fatal detail was on the scene investigating.
One of the six people killed in a plane crash on a suburban Phoenix golf course Monday night was an international business student at UNLV. Helena Lagos, 22, was among those killed in the crash in Scottsdale, Arizona. Lagos enrolled at UNLV in 2014, a university spokesman said. Two others killed — Erik Valente and James Louis Pedroza — also were from Las Vegas. Authorities have not said who was flying the plane. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A woman who was killed in a crash Monday was pregnant. Monique K. Leiwalo, 29, was due to give birth in May. She was driving on Rainbow when her car was rear-ended. The impact sent her car crashing into a pole, killing her. Police arrested 26-year-old Timothy Naas on suspicion of DUI in the crash. “We didn’t just lose her, we lost my nephew to-be,” her sister, Jasmine Leiwalo, said.
A man was struck by a BMW late Monday night and later died at a local hospital.
The crash occurred around 11 p.m near Alexander Avenue and Walker Street. Homicide detectives are on the scene because the man was in an altercation before the crash. The driver remained on the scene and was cooperating with police. It’s not known at this time if the driver will face any charges.

1. A Las Vegas doctor convicted of murder in the 2007 Hepatitis C outbreak has died in prison. Dipak Desai was serving life in prison with the possibility of parole on 27 counts, including second-degree murder. Desai’s lawyer Richard Wright argued that Desai was unfit to stand trial after suffering multiple strokes. The Washoe County coroner’s office is expected to determine Desai’s cause of death.
2. A 9-vehicle crash has closed down southbound traffic on I-15 near Moapa. Clark County Fire Department says five semitrailers and four passenger cars were involved in the wreck at about 2:50 a.m. No injuries were reported but lanes were still closed as of 7:30 a.m.
3. MGM Resorts valets fear for a decrease in income after an announcement that parking rates will rise again. One valet that spoke to the Las Vegas Review-Journal said his income decreased by $20,000 a year due to parking rates rising, and another said he had to take a second job to pay his bills. Parking rates at MGM Resorts will increase by up to $25 starting Wednesday.
