One person was killed when their car caught fire after it was struck from behind by another car in a North Las Vegas hit-and-run, police said.
Darryl Smith, 36, has been charged with DUI, reckless driving in connection with a Jan. 7 crash that killed a woman and her two young sons.

One person is dead following a seven-vehicle crash involving a bus in the southwest valley. The crash occurred at 7:54 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Rainbow.
On Saturday, January 12, 2019 the Nevada Highway Patrol assisted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in the investigation of a fatal crash involving an off duty LVMPD Employee. After further investigation and review of civilian dash camera footage the Nevada Highway Patrol Fatal Team has placed fault on both the LVMPD employee and the deceased motorcycle rider.

An early Wednesday morning crash has left one person in critical condition. A sedan and semitrailer collided around 4 a.m. at the corner of Spencer Street and Serene Avenue. Police do not believe impairment is a factor in the crash. Spencer has been blocked off north of Serene while police continue their investigation.
A head-on collision Friday morning sent four people to the hospital with injuries police say were not life threatening. The crash occurred when the driver of a Honda Accord attempted to turn left onto Flamingo from Swenson Street. Police were not sure if either driver was impaired.
Two people were killed in a car crash Sunday afternoon in the western valley. Two cars collided about 4:45 p.m. on Rainbow Boulevard, just south of Westcliff Drive. A white Chrysler struck a black Toyota as it was turning left into a shopping center, Las Vegas police said. The Chrysler jumped a curb and struck the corner of the Silver State Schools Credit Union office. The Toyota flipped and the driver and the passenger, who was ejected from the car, died at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler suffered minor injuries and police said he was not impaired. It’s unclear if he will face charges.
Las Vegas police are investigating a Tuesday morning injury crash involving a man in his 20s and a Toyota sedan. The crash was reported at 4:45 a.m. at the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Valley View Boulevard.
Northbound Valley View is blocked. The man was taken to the hospital. The driver of the Toyota is not suspected of impairment.

24 people face fraud charges in a Las Vegas car crash scheme. The crashes would happen in the east valley, most on Nellis Boulevard. The scheme typically involved two cars that would brake suddenly, causing a victim behind them to rear-end the second car. One defendant, Julio Caesar Gonzalez, allegedly drove in 17 of the staged crashes. Another defendant, Edgar Betancourt Preval, is a local dentist. At least one crash sent an elderly couple to a hospital; in another, an 11-year-old child was inside the targeted vehicle. As of Monday morning, 10 people had been arrested.
1. Two people are dead and another was shot in the head after an argument broke out over a game of dominoes at a northeast Las Vegas home Sunday night. After an argument began, a man went to his car to retrieve a gun and opened fire inside the home on the 4400 block of Wendy Street near East Craig and North Walnut roads. Two men in their 20s were killed and a third man in his 30s was shot in the head and is now stabilized. Police are still looking for the suspect.
2. A Las Vegas woman died from choking injuries Friday morning, according to the Clark County Coroner. On June 3, police were called to a break-in at a home on the 1900 block of Sirocco Court when an arriving officer said he found Stella Martinez on the ground being choked by her ex-boyfriend Christopher Wood. Police attempted to revive Martinez but she later died. Wood faces attempted murder, attempted burglary and domestic battery by strangulation charges.
3. A pedestrian has died after being struck by an SUV early Monday morning. Police responded to a call about the accident on Tropicana near Wilbur Street and Maryland Parkway around 2:30 a.m. Monday. The pedestrian later died at an area hospital.
The 13th annual ARC-CSI conference began with crash test day on Monday at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This is the twelfth year the conference has been held in Las Vegas.
Hundreds of people gathered along barricades to watch as cars slammed into concrete barriers, plowed into the back of buses and collided ead on into one another.
“This is an opportunity for guys to learn first hand about car wrecks. This is a lab, this is where they get to see what create the crash,” said W.R. “Rusty” Haight, the event organizer. All sorts of tests were undertaken, from small fender benders to collisions at more than 40 miles per hour. High speed cameras, drones and remote cameras attached inside the cars were used to capture all of the action.
